Talk your way into history

Northwich residents past and present are being asked to share their memories and stories about the town as part of an Oral History project.

Organised and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund with help from Saltscape, Lion Salt Works and the Town Centre Heritage Scheme, the project is seeking volunteers to get the project started.

Lorna Kernahan, Community and Learning Officer from the Lion Salt Works said: “This is very much a community initiative focused on capturing stories and memories of the town, its buildings, the distinctive landscape and local industries.

To start with we’re looking for volunteers to be trained in using the equipment so that we have a team able to record the oral history sessions.”

The first training session is planned for 8th July and recording will begin later that month. The theme will be Northcich’s old bulidings and the team is particularly interested in stories about the town’s black and white buildings.

Lorna added: “Whether it’s a ghost story, a personal memory about your first job or a funny story from your childhood, we’d love to hear from you. Your stories will be recorded for future generations to enjoy and we’re expecting a great response.”
