Work is on track for Northwich’s new Waitrose to open in December this year.
The shell of the 27,500 sq ft store is expected to be complete by November 2013, when it will be handed over to Waitrose to fit out the 18,000 sq ft sales area ready for shoppers.
Russells Construction is working on the build at Hayhurst Quay as part of a wider £20million revamp of the derelict riverside site.
Russells have also been responsible for site remediation and will provide a 208-space car park, soft landscaping and refurbishment of the marina slipway.
A 12-week programme of land remediation involved demolition of existing buildings, asbestos removal, levelling different height sections, removing knotweed and installing structural foundations for all the buildings.
The plan for Hayhurst Quay, put forward by H20 Urban, also includes 58 extra care retirement homes from McCarthy and Stone, a 4,400 ft leisure unit, 40-berth marina and improved public access to the waterside.
