Cheshire West and Chester Council and the Weaver Valley Partnership believe that introducing a gyratory system in Northwich could reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.
Under the proposal, traffic would flow one-way in a clockwise direction along Chesterway, over Hayhurst Bridge, along Chester Road, over Town Bridge and along Watling Street.
Subject to approval, it is expected the gyratory will be implemented for an 18 month trial period beginning early next year.
Councillor Lynn Riley, Executive Member for Community and Environment, said:
“Trialing the gyratory will allow it to be experienced by residents and visitors before a decision is taken on whether to implement it permanently.
“Throughout this period the scheme will be closely monitored, and modified if necessary.”
Geoff Hope-Terry, Chair of the Weaver Valley Partnership, said:
“The experimental gyratory is one of a number of initiatives aimed at improving Northwich which are currently taking shape.
“This scheme has the potential to impact on everyone who lives, works, shops and socialises in the town centre, so it is important we hear their views.”
